The Cactus: A Reese's Book Club Pick

Sarah Haywood

A Reese's Book Club Pick and New York Times Bestseller
“Fans of
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine will love The Cactus.” —Red magazine
An unforgettable love story that shows sometimes you have to embrace the unexpected.
Susan Green is like a cactus: you can't get too close. She likes things perfectly ordered and predictable. No surprises. But suddenly confronted with the loss of her mother and the unexpected news that she is about to become a mother herself, Susan’s greatest fear is realized. She is losing control.
Enter Rob, the dubious but well-meaning friend of her lazy brother. As Susan’s due date draws near and her world falls further into a tailspin, Susan finds an unlikely ally in Rob. She might have a chance at finding real love and learning to love herself, if only she can figure out how to let go.

About the Author

Hello, and welcome to my Author Page. Here's a little bit about me: I was born in Birmingham, in the Midlands of the United Kingdom. I studied Law at Kent University and Chester College of Law, then worked as a trainee solicitor in London. After qualification, I headed north to Liverpool, working first as a solicitor, then as an advice worker with Citizens Advice. I subsequently joined the Legal Services Ombudsman's office, where I investigated complaints about lawyers.
After completing an Open University Creative Writing Course, I studied for an MA in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. I live in Liverpool, round the corner from John Lennon's childhood home, with my husband, two sons and two ginger cats (Connie and Rudy).
When I’m not writing or driving my children here-there-and-everywhere, I enjoy reading (of course) and hiking. I’ve recently climbed Snowdon and Scafell Pike and am hoping to conquer Ben Nevis in the not-too-distant future. I also love puzzles of any kind, especially crosswords, sudokus and jigsaws.
I’m currently working on my second novel.
